It is so important to plan for success in your garden. Planning a garden layout design will help you make the most of your space and help you make good choices about plants. It will also help you make decisions about companion planting, whether to use raised bed gardening or container gardening (and how to arrange them), and where to plant based on the information from sun mapping your planting areas. Planning a garden layout is easy using a few tools – I used Kami, a notation and mark-up tool and Google Docs draw feature – and some companion planting resources (see below for two links to resources I use). Keeping track of what worked and what needs improvement is also helpful – you will make more informed decisions next year!!
If I can impart any wisdom from my years of gardening, it is that you should always be starting seeds indoors with a plan for their life in the garden. Gardening is a labor of love that deserves to reach its bountiful potential! Happy gardening, everybody!!
